Some bosses are kind enough to warn you when the time’s up. But it is excruciating to have a boss who just keeps making the work more painful sequentially, waiting for you to resign. And sometimes, the management might not even have to intention to fire you, it could be normal work crisis. But how do you guess which is a sign of a normal work conflict, and which is a sign of impending doom?

Here are the things that could warn you that you might be on the firing line.

Is Everything Being Put On Record?

If your boss suddenly starts documenting each conversation, and even cc’ing the whole team in every mail, it could mean something serious. Especially, if teams are used to working in informal ways, then hyper documenting everything could mean danger. But this should not worry you if emailing is the natural way your boss communicates.

Are You Being Left Off Projects?

If you are redeployed from projects, or not informed of some meetings, of which you were earlier an important participant, it could mean that your role has been sidelined. When an employer starts reassigning your work to others without giving you a clear, understandable rationale, this could very well be a sign that the department’s preparing for your departure. But you have to be very clear about this concern, as it could also mean that you are being relieved for some other important project. But if you are left off, without any other lead, you should probably start looking for another job.

Is Your Team Being Weird Around You?

There might be many reasons for your colleague to act differently, but if the whole team reacts differently to you ensemble, it could mean something. They would probably know of your situation or want to try to save you the embarrassment. Hence, if your team suddenly goes quiet when you approach, or behave differently with you, it might mean something serious. Akshay Dalvi, from UI Commons Academy, suggests that, “When a toxic relationship at work suddenly becomes worse, or when your relationship with the team changes suddenly, you need to introspect and consider your future at the company.”

These signs might help to warn you that need to consider other opportunities and remain realistic of your prospects at the organisation.
