As surreal as Murad’s journey was, we have to admit it was MC Sher who saw it and pushed him. In the beginning, of course, one would be skeptical of the initial “push” (when he just announces an inexperienced and not to forget, starstruck Murad’s name for the next set during the first ever jam) and mistake it for bullying but when you see how MC Sher turns that into a teaching moment for Murad, you realize that you’ve just witnessed the start of one helluva of a bromance.

Murad saw a dream but knew no means of getting there. It was his inspiration-turned-friend Sher that paved the way for him and bowed out gracefully when he knew only one of them could win the competition. While Murad became Gully Boy, overcoming the existential crisis(s) that he had been facing for the better part of his life along with turmoil in his relationship with Safeena (Alia Bhatt), Sher helped him cope with music and kept him going even in times Murad thought it was impossible. Sher knew the power of persistence in the face of hardships due to his experience with a negligent alcoholic father.

Do You Help Them Be A Better Version Of Themselves?

Recognizing Murad’s talent when even Murad was unaware is only the tip of the iceberg that is MC Sher’s infamous friendship. He wasn’t threatened by the recognition and applause that his friend Murad’s performances got. Sher advised him to keep his cool and be nonchalant even when the opponent’s rap hit the wrong nerve (instance: rappers looked down on him due his poverty). With MC Sher’s training and help, Murad learnt that he had nothing to be ashamed of. He also made Gully Boy have faith in his supreme talent despite of his sordid situation.

Remember when Gully Boy got selected in the top 5 for the finale and MC Sher didn’t. He was disappointed there for a minute and you’ll admit, everyone was scared that Sher might just turn into a sour loser but he wow’ed us all with his reaction! Even though his friend, who he introduced to the inside world of rap, outshined him Sher didn’t hate on him. He simply stepped back and let Gully Boy shine and cheered him on while he won the competition.

Do You Believe In Them Despite Their Shortcomings?

Before Gully Boy hadn’t risen, Murad was mindblown by how MC Sher stood up to a crowd and rapped his way to glory. Murad didn’t know shit about composing a full-fledged rap song but you wouldn’t spot a moment where his friend MC Sher judged him for his apparent lack of knowledge about the craft. Instead, he dutifully taught Murad about rhythm and lyrics which helped him become Gully Boy as we know him.

If you have a friend like MC Sher in life, you don’t need much else to get through it.
