Punjabi music fans have yet another new track to listen to as Gagan Kokri brings to us his much talked about a song titled Shatranj – The game of mind, from the album named Shatranj. Before this, Gagan Kokri already gained much popularity owing to the success of the songs titled, “License” and “Laavan Tere Naal” each of which has more than 10 million views on YouTube. This new song Shatranj has already received more than 3 million views in 3 days and it seems this song is set to go a long way.
“Shatranj” is a break in the monotony from everyday Punjabi songs with eve-teasing as its core theme. The music video begins with Kokri and his gang witnessing a man who is harassing a girl on the road and he takes it upon himself to be the hero of the day. Apart from that, all you see are lots of bright-colored cars, speedboats on clear water and cityscapes. The third part of the video shows Kokri taking the blessings from his mother, or ‘bebe’, and then going out to meet his friends again. The video ends with Kokri and his friends going on a high-profile cruise on a speedboat and watching the blue sea beyond.
The Punjabi pop song “Shatranj” has been sung by Kokri, while the lyrics are given by Guppi Dhillon and the music is composed by Gold E Gill. The video has been shot in the gorgeous locations of Toronto, the USA which explains the life of luxury that you see in the video. Coming to the music, the song begins with a Punjabi pop element after which the beat catches up after a moment. The lyrics are in Punjabi but they have a funny peppy beat which keeps you hooked till the very end.
Gagan Kokri is an Australian-based Punjabi singer who is evolving big-time in the Punjabi music industry. Railing from Kokri Kalan, Moga in Punjab, he made his debut with the song “Rabb Karre” on YouTube and later created superhit songs for the industry. Apart from his success in his career in singing, Gagan Kokriwill be soon seen making his debut in acting with the upcoming movie “Laatu”, opposite actress Aditi Sharma. The movie is set to hit the screens on 16th November.
Though “Shatranj” is not really different from other Punjabi pop in any way, what stands out is the theme and the fusion of Punjabi folk elements with a Toronto landscape, which makes you swell with the pride with the representation of India in a foreign country.
