New on YouTube is a music video for a song titled Taqleef which has been sung by Rohanpreet Singh. If the name rings a bell, that’s because he recently finished as a runner-up on the second season of Colors TV’s reality show, Rising Star India. Moreover, some years ago, he was also part of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs as a little kid.

Taqleef mostly seems to be a showcase of his vocal talent more than anything else. This is evident from the fact that the song doesn’t sound as if a lot of hard work has gone into developing it. It’s your usual sad song, with a crybaby music video to accompany it.

The only thing that stands out here is the vocal performance from Rohanpreet Singh. There really is quite some versatility to his voice, even as it transitions through the different portions of Taqleef effortlessly. His voice is indeed one to watch out for in the coming years.

The music for this track has been composed by Goldboy, who is known for quite a few hit songs in the Punjabi music world. Chahtaan is one of them, and not only has it been composed by him, but the vocals for this one have also been handled by him. Breakup is another of his songs that had tasted success a while ago.

Kirat Gill and Nirmaan have been credited as the lyricists of Taqleef. The lyrics are your typical affair, as they echo several other heartbreak songs. The song starts off with the lines “Tera pyaar mere layi, taqleef ton ghat nai. Koi hor na katdi, jinni main kat layi,” and moves on towards cliché lines like “Meri jagah aake vekh sahi tu. Barf ch beh ke aag sek sahi tu.”

Rohanpreet Singh’s journey through Rising Star Indian season 2 earlier this year has given him quite a big fan base. The Taqleef music video on the T-Series Apna Punjab YouTube channel has grabbed more than a million views in three days.

His debut cannot be described as a smashing one, but his voice can definitely be looked at as promising. We won’t be surprised to see him come up with more songs with known music producers in the months to come.
