Out via the T-Series YouTube channel right now is the music video of Koka, a song from the soundtrack of the upcoming film, Khandaani Shafakhana. This video features the film’s three lead actors, Sonakshi Sinha, Badshah and Varun Sharma. It looks like a song created only for promotions, and hence won’t find place in the actual film. Tanishk Bagchi has composed it, and also written its lyrics along with Mellow D.

Translated from Punabi, Koka means nosepin, and that’s what Badshah is singing about. The words to the chorus go, “Koka. Tera kuch kuch kehnda ni koka. Tera kuch kuch kehnda ni lehenga.” Although these lines are mouthed by Badshah in the music video, they have actually been sung by noted Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi. Badshah does get his trademark rap in the middle, while the female portions are sung by Dhvani Bhanushali.

Speaking about Badshah’s rap, it literally sounds like any other song of his. His style refuses to evolve by any means, and so do the lyrics, which sound like recycled lines from his other songs. Dhvani Bhanushali has tried to give a good vocal performance here, but her voice has been auto-tuned for no good reason. Same goes for the voice of Jasbir Jassi. It just seems like composers are auto-tuning singers’ voices these days just because everyone else is doing it.

This is the first song from the soundtrack of Khandaani Shafakhana, which has been directed by Shilpi Dasgupta. This film stars Sonakshi Sinha, Annu Kapoor and Varun Sharma, and also marks the acting debut of Badshah. Its story revolves around Sonakshi’s character who is forced to reopen her family-run sex clinic in order to get out of a financial crisis. The film has been written by Gautam Mehra, and is slated for a release on August 2.

Khandaani Shafakhana’s soundtrack has been revealed to feature tracks from Payal Dev, Rochak Kohli and Vipul Mehta as well, which are still to be released.
