Want Beautiful Teeth? Try These Dentist Recommended Tips At Home

Remember that dazzling smile that lit up the screen every time Madhuri Dixit would make an appearance? So many of us grew up seeing that smile and being envious of her perfectly white and beautiful teeth, so much so that the Madhuri Dixit smile almost became synonymous with the words ‘healthy teeth.’

If you don’t like visiting a dentist too often but want to maintain the health and beauty of your teeth without using too many ‘products’ that are available in the market these days, you can follow a few easy and very effective tips that will keep your pearls shiny and strong.

“Taking care of your teeth and gums at home is as important as going to a dentist every 6 months” says Dr. Sharad V. Kumar, M.D.S. (Ortho), Member of A.A.O. (USA), Fellow of W.F.O. (USA), Consultant Implantologist, Consultant Orthodontist, Cosmetic Dentist and Founder and M.D. of Smile Please Teethcare Pvt. Ltd.

According to Dr. Sharad, “By taking care of your teeth in the following ways at home, you can prevent most of the problems that are associated with your teeth and gums and with your overall dental hygiene.”

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride based toothpaste. While brushing, massage your teeth and gums using a soft gentle motion. Do not be rough on your teeth and take about a minute or two to brush.
  • Rinse your mouth with a mix of lukewarm water and some salt. This is one of the best natural forms of mouthwash that you can use, says Dr. Sharad, and it also has anti-inflammatory properties that will keep your gums healthy.
  • Flossing is important, as it will help you to clean your teeth even from the sides. When you brush, you can clean your teeth from the front and back, but not the sides, and this is where flossing is so helpful.
  • Reduce your intake of sugary items as much as you can as these can cause bacterial build-up in your teeth and cause damage.
  • Giving up or at least reducing your intake of alcohol and cigarettes or products with tobacco will also help to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Dr. Sharad sums it up by saying that while you should try and follow these tips at home every day if you can, or as much as you can, visiting your dentist at least once in every six months and getting a cleaning and polishing procedure for your teeth and gums will also help.
