Frizzy and dull hair? These tips will make it smooth and shiny

These doctor recommended tips will make your hair naturally healthy

It’s summer time and there’s probably something going on with your hair that doesn’t feel right.

You may be losing out on the shine, or your hair always tends to look frizzy and unmanageable. Also, no matter what you do, your hair is always dry and lacks that healthy volume and bounce you wished those expensive bottles of hair products would magically give you.

While hair care brands promise you magical and unbelievable results with their products, there’s also the hidden threat of hair damage that these chemicals can cause to your hair.

According to Dr. Vinod Sonawane, MD Hair Transplant Surgeon, PG Diploma in Trichology and Managing Director at Bloom Hair Transplant, hair care is not rocket science, and trying out some time-tested simple methods at home can actually benefit you more than any hair care product can.

1. Use as less heat as you can

The moment you notice frizzy hair, the first thing most of us end up doing is to take the hair straightener and smoothen out the frizz. But did you know that using heat on your hair will actually damage the hair shafts and cause more frizz? Dr. Sonawane says it is best to cut down the amount of heat your hair is subjected to. “Avoid washing your hair with hot water and avoid a hair dryer at all costs” he says.

2. Dry your hair properly so that it doesn’t stay wet

“Nothing is as bad for your hair as keeping it wet, as that’s the time when it is most brittle and fragile. Wait for at least 15 to 20 minutes before combing your hair. Also, using a very heavy towel to dry your hair can cause hair breakage, so use a light towel and dry your hair lightly. Naturally let it air dry instead of using artificial heat” stresses Dr. Sonawane.

3. Be careful about your comb

Did you know that using a wide-toothed comb can help to boost your hair health and improve blood circulation in the scalp, as well as prevent hair breakage? According to Dr. Sonawane, “something as simple as using a wide toothed comb can maintain your hair health.” But be careful, as the doctor also points out that “you should avoid sharing combs as there is always a risk of passing on some skin infection.”

4. Use shampoos and conditioners in moderation

Did you know that the biggest enemy of your hair is the chemical based products you expose it to? Dr. Sonawane points out that chemicals such as Paraben cause irreparable damage to your hair. Using shampoos and conditioners and other hair care products in moderation is the key. Once you have found a particular shampoo or conditioner that works for your hair and does not make it frizzy, stick to it, he adds.

While these may sound simple, Dr. Sonawane adds that regularly following these tips will ensure your hair is smooth and healthy naturally, without the need of using hair care products.
