Looks like Bangalore has taken up a new challenge to maintain their roads and be safer! Well, the Bengaluru Deputy Chief Minister and the Development Minister G Parameshwara have asked every citizen to watch out for potholes and report the matter immediately to certain contacts so the concerned pothole could be closed in no time. Well, if this isn’t a brilliant move by the Karnataka Government, then what is?

The DY Chief Minister has tweeted the advert which says “Report a pothole, get it fixed immediately”. According to some reports, the response from the citizens is good because the season of monsoon typically covers every pothole making people fall prey to them. But, we wonder how effective the initiative would actually be.

The advert, which is all catchy and very, very promising also has the picture of the DYCM himself with communication methods and important numbers like ‘BBMP Sahaya Platform’ (bbmp.sahaaya.in) or via WhatsApp 9480685700 or simply by calling BBMP control room at the number 080-22660000. In the poster, the message seems loud and clear. With the picture of the minister, the ministry wanted to stress on the seriousness of the matter.

While we are no one to judge a Government, but the mere point that the Karnataka Government took such an initiative is commendable and overwhelming. With the world coming closer with the help of social media communications and internet, this step would actually prove to be beneficial for both the Government and the people of Bengaluru. We believe that this online complaint registration would even be handy in solving the matter quicker and more efficiently.

Yes, the Government does not want to repeat history! While the citizens had mourned for the people who died in severe pothole accidents during the rains in October, the Government started preparing ways to diminish this. With the online portals now open, it is safer, and as-a-matter-of-fact, very convenient.

While some people have already taken to twitter mentioning that there has not been much response to their messages on WhatsApp. So, we now just have to report and wait and hope that help arrives on time and makes Bangalore roads safer and better as promised. Spotted a pothole already?
