Whatever field we may be working on, we need to constantly upgrade our skills in the competitive job market. Knowledge is growing exponentially, and it is important to stay abreast to stay relevant in your job and role.
Whether we are looking to lead a team, get a promotion, get a better job, start your own venture, we all need to upgrade our skills constantly. From computer programming to digital marketing, from accountancy to web designing, something new is happening in each and every field.
So, how can you pick up new skills faster and better to ace your competitors at work?
Its important to get a mentor to move forward in the right direction. There is a lot of information out there, and a mentor is important to guide you as to which information is relevant and which is not. A good mentor is good because he is busy with running his own enterprise. So, it is important to be proactive. You have to take the right opportunities, and be very alert to find the right mentor. If you find someone you get on with and respect, never be afraid to ask them.
A formal course
You can take an online or part-time course to learn new skills. Now many organisations allow their employees to take a sabbatical to learn something or sponsor the course. Costs and time commitments vary, but there’s so much out there that you’re sure to find a course that fits your needs—and your schedule. Most cities have weekend batches for working students.

Read as much as you can
One of the oldest methods of learning might just be the perfect solution for today’s most hectic schedules. That’s because reading eliminates all the dependencies that come with other ways of learning. You can pick up a book or read an article online to learn something new as per the convenience of your time.
Start with a reading list of books depending on the new skill you want to learn. And work your way through. You may have to cut out some time from socialising, but that’s the price you will have to pay to learn.
These smart techniques will help you learn a new skill and facilitate your movement towards your professional goals.
