In 2019, with women comprising more than half of the population, the business world hasn’t shown even nearly commensurate growth in representation of women in leadership roles. Wherever women have been able to infiltrate the “Managerial Circle”, they have shown that the different perspective and working style that they bring to the table can produce the same successful outcomes as men or even better. And yet, we have not been able to let go of the idea that “Men and the male-associated qualities are more suitable for leadership positions”. We need fight this underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in all sectors all over the world and here’s why-
The World Needs Diversity

We have all heard the argument that with more women leaders, the business will have a more diverse talent pool and a more diverse talent pool would eventually lead to better financial outcomes. It’s 100% true. But, we need more women leaders not just to make our businesses more diverse and profitable but also to make this world more diverse and valuable. More women leaders in the world will bring an influx of new, original ideas and perspectives. They will bring different approach to problem-solving and conflict-resolution. And that’s something the entire business community and the world in general desperately needs.
How About “Justice” For A Reason?

The primary reason why we “need” more women in leadership positions is because the world needs diversity, the world needs new perspective, the world needs new and original ideas. But if people don’t understand that, how about they understand this one word answer- “justice”? It is only justified to make dedicated efforts towards empowering women to occupy leadership positions. It is only justified that special management programs be organized to help women gain the required knowledge and skills. It is justified because women have faced inequality and discrimination since AGES, especially in the business world. So, if today, you are asked to encourage the idea of “women in leadership roles”; all you should do is ask HOW!
In a follow up article, I will talk about “How” we can encourage and ensure more women in leadership positions.
