Hamid Farooqui, who started off his career as a programmer at Oracle, is now the Chief Executive Officer of a rapidly growing SaaS (Software as a Service) company named SoGoSurvey, Hamid is a serial entrepreneur.
A cloud based application, SoGoSurvey is an application helpful for creating, distributing, and analyzing surveys, forms, and polls. Hamid’s growth can be traced from being an early member of a technology team, where his great technological skills were recognized and he soon was promoted to the prestigious position of the Director of Engineering. He has also taken the education industry by storm. He is the co-founder of K12Insight, whose tools are aiding school teachers in strengthening the relationship among the parents, teachers, and the staff.
An engineering degree holder from Bombay University, Hamid has acquired a successful and prestigious Master’s degree in Computer Science from State University of NewYork.
While speaking to HotFridayTalks.com, Hamid shared the interesting success story of SoGoSurvey.
“We are a late entrant into this space of online surveys, online customer experience and online employee. It is basically one platform that caters to different horizontals. When we came into this industry in 2013, there were market leaders, more than ten years into this space, who had already established themselves strongly here. So it was difficult for a late entrant to come in and make a mark. But we were able to do so, with sheer hard work and the quality of our product.” Hamid says.
His educational background as well as his initial work experience was hugely beneficial towards shaping his success and he never denies any part of that fact. “I started my career with Oracle in Boston. Then I changed to another company named Amadeus. I has been building products for these companies, and that helped me to became really good at building products. This background, really helped me to build a solid product with SoGo.”
So, what was it that helped Hamid’s company make a mark and stand out among tough competition? “When competing with the companies who already had a 10 years head start on us, we were able to do so, solely because our technology, platform, features, our user interface and usability, was even better than theirs. So, without even having much funds to spend on marketing and advertising, we were competing with rich companies, only because of the quality of the platform and the product we built. And word of mouth really helped us grow and propel the company in the right direction.” Hamid remarks.
Within A very short span of time, SoGoSurvey has reached greats heights. “Towards the end of 2018, PC Magazine, US, did a review of this entire space and they gave us third rank for product quality and customer support. In the previous review, we ranked 9th, so this was a huge jump for us.” Hamid said proudly.
A success earned after hard work and without much backing, is truly a sweet success. Hence Hamid says, “This success is really sweet, because we were not being funded, and were bootstrapping. I did not want to take money so early and dilute the value of the company. So it’s really great, because I built it with limited resources, without spending lot of money on marketing, purely based on skills. And today some of the biggest brands in the world are our customers.”
Hamid Farooqui’s story thus shows, no matter how late you enter into an industry, which already has top players, if you are dedicated and do your best at your job, no one can stop you from achieving the greatest heights.
