We all use Instagram to post our travel stories. From the beaches to the mountains, from picture of local cuisine to walking on random streets in new cities, we all share our ways of exploring when we travel. But did you know you could actually use Instagram as a travel guide?

The app has always allowed users to tag the location in a post. And now it also allows geotagging in stories. If you click on the geotag, it will actually pinpoint the exact location to you on the map. Not only that, it will also show you other pictures people took there. For instance, if you arrive on the location of a a pizzeria in Italy, you can also find out which is the popular drink travellers try there. While hashtags are more general, geotags help you with a more accurate search.
Planning With Saved Posts

If you click on the bookmark on the right bottom corner of a picture, it gets saved in your archive. Not only can you save posts, but you can also organise your collections. This will help you plan your itinerary when you travel to the place. You can organise your collections by the cuisine you want to try, places you don’t want to miss, or even by other Instagrammers in your destination city.
Following Professional Travellers

Don’t restrict your use of Instagram as a social app, just to follow your friends. It is a great place to know what professional travel bloggers or photographers are upto. Following them will help you know the best destinations, cuisine or events when you are visiting a place. You can also try messaging them directly for tips. You will be surprised at how friendly and helpful many of them are.
So, instead of using the app just to put up your posts, you can also use it to plan a great trip.
