We all look forward to the holidays but it’s the travelling part that most of us don’t look forward to especially if one has to wait for hours for a connecting flight. The thought of  spending many hours before catching the connecting flight dampens the spirit. Waiting endlessly tires the mind and body. But there are ways you can make those hours of wait fun and exciting too. Make the travel memorable instead of watching the clock.

If you are a foodie, there is a lot to choose from when it comes to food at the airports these days. While I agree the food at some of the airports are as bad as the ones they serve in the aircraft, there are some airports that offer genuine gourmet cuisine. They have everything from the local cuisine to some fine dining restaurants. And for those who are in a total holiday mood and want to junk, there’s always the burgers and pizzas to choose from.Going around exploring for food is a great way to pass time at the airport.

If you are a shopaholic, then there is plenty for you to do at the airports. These days you can find most of the brands at the airport, so if you have any last minute shopping to do, this is your chance. If you’ve forgotten to pick gifts for your friends and family, you can do that at the duty free shops around. Or else, just enjoy some window shopping!

A good massage is a great way to start or end your holiday. So why not kill an hour or so with a good massage at the massage parlous or spas inside the airport. So you’re done with eating and shopping and walking around just window shopping, just sit back, close your eyes while you get a good head or body massage. This helps you relax and reduces stress too.Travel does get stressful doesn’t it?

Layovers are the best time to catch up on all the reading that you haven’t had the time for. You can either bring your book or kindle or download a book on your smartphone or tablet. If you’ve carried none of those, it’s a great way to kill your time browsing through books at the bookstore at the airport. Airport is the perfect place to switch off from everything and immerse yourself in a book.

Chat It Up

It is interesting to watch different types of people at the airports. But it’s also nice to chat it up with strangers at the airport sometimes. You can strike up an interesting conversation with someone  either at the lounge or a restaurant or bar. You could exchange notes on your travels or discuss anything from the weather to books to movies and food etc.or just share stories.Who knows you might make a friend for life or like in the movies, your cupid might just be at the airport!

Airport lounges are the ideal place to take a quick power nap in, but if you don’t have access to the lounge, just look out for a quiet and comfortable place to catch your sleep. Just make sure to keep your valuables safe and set an alarm, just incase you have the tendency to oversleep!

Your vacation actually begins and ends at the airport, so make the most of it !
