Shoes are one of the most important gear for a trek or hike, especially during monsoon. Because even a simple terrain can get tricky. The shoes should provide you with not only a grasp but should also be comfortable for you to be able to cover long distances.

Having perfect shoes for your trek will take you a long way, on the other hand, bad shoes will definitely stop you from going further. The trekking shoes you select must offer you warmth, stability, water resistance, weight, durability and of course comfort.

Shoes are a trekker’s best friend. You have to pick the perfect shoes if you want to invest at the right place, as the shoes could make you comfortable or miserable during a monsoon trek.

There are essentially three types of shoes for these activities. If you are going hiking, then the shoes need to be lightweight and simple shoes, which are also perfect for running and other sports. These are made of rubber soles and are much more durable. If you are not carrying a heavy bag with you for the trek, then these can be the best shoes. If you are going to a region where there is dry terrain and warm weather, then hiking shoes should be enough.

Trekking shoes provide additional support to your ankles and feet. These are made from materials like synthetic, suede or leather. They are stronger than hiking shoes. These are also recommended if you are going for your first monsoon hike.

If you are going for a trek of higher difficulty level, or a Himalayan trek, where you will be in the mountains for a few days, then it is better to go for expedition shoes. These are tough, aggressive and thick and will last for many years, even after you have hiked a lot. You might have to dig deeper in your pockets, so go for these only if you are sure that the investment will be worth your plans for trekking in the future.

Ensure that the upper part of the shoes is durable and water resistant. It should also provide ventilation to your feet, especially during monsoon treks. Even the lower sole of the shoes should be made of thicker material.

The midsole is where the comfort and stability of a shoe lies. It provides stiffness to the shoes and cushioning to your feet. Therefore, a sole should be hard enough to protect you from any abrasive shock while walking on long, rocky terrains. The most commonly used material that you will find in your sole are EVA and Polyurethane.

So, invest right and find the perfect fit for yourself, when getting trekking shoes for the monsoon treks this year.
