Many like visiting southern India for its rich Dravidian culture and traditions. Whether it is the grand temples, or the rolling tea estates or the misty mountains, the region has a lot to offer for travellers with different preferences. But did you know, you could even see snowfall here?
Lambasingi is the only place in southern India where it snows. Perched at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, this misty hill station in Visakhapatnam’s Chintapalli town is also fondly known as the ‘Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh’.

Throughout the year, the tiny village is covered with an ethereal white mist that swirls and moves with the wind, but in the winter, the temperature in Lambasingi goes as low as zero degree Celsius, with bouts of snowfall intermittently.
Apart from being the only place in the southern region that sees snow, Lambasingi is also home to an isolated tribal community that works at the pepper and coffee plantations. The vast expanse across which these plantations are spread is a sight to behold.
You can also visit the Kothapalli waterfall in the vicinity. The cascade of a white waterfall over the mossy rocks is beautiful and serene. Surrounded by the mist, it will make you feel lost in time. It forms a small pool below, which is a picturesque spot to rest and enjoy the weather.

Another attraction at Lambasingi is overnight camping. Though another name for this destination is Kora Bayalu, which translated to ‘frozen stick’, as a warning not to spend a night outside, the place is perfect for stargazing and camping.

In winter, the verdant orchards around the tiny hamlet are peppered with an enchanting sprinkling of wildflowers and laced with silvery clouds. An evening stroll through the winding trails of the mist endowed plantations is a treat for any romantic traveller.
Lambasingi is 107 km away from Vishakhapatnam, from where you can take a cab or the local bus.
So, if you are pining for a snowy winter, and Kashmir is too far, head to Lambasingi to experience a beautiful winter.
