5 Reasons Why Travelling Is Good For Your Creativity

things you will be surprised to know that travelling does for your brain’s creativity.

Don't Travel Alone To The Plitvice Lakes In Croatia, Here's Why

The travelling bug and the creative bug are more closely related than you would think. The experiences on the road will open your mind to new ways of thinking and feeling. The neural pathways will be cleared of cobwebs and fired for new ideas.

Steve Job’s trip to India was eventful, and was a definite inspiration behind Apple. Jobs ate local food and slept in abandoned buildings on his hike from Delhi to Himalayas. Similarly, the visits to the desert festival Burning Man were the added leverage to Eric Schmidt when he was chosen to be Google CEO by the founders.

Apart from the known benefits of exposing a person to new culture, people and experience, scientists believe that travelling can boost creativity.

“Foreign experiences increase both cognitive flexibility and depth and integrativeness of thought, the ability to make deep connections between disparate forms,” says Adam Galinsky, a professor at Columbia Business School.

Here are 5 reasons why travelling is good for your creativity-

1.Travel stimulates the mind by pushing you out of the comfort zone

Ever devised a strategy to hold a bag when the zipper breaks and you cannot repair it immediately? That jugaad your mind comes up with is only possible when you are out of your comfort zone and have to think of quick fixes.

2.Travel makes you more open-minded

Meeting new people has the effect of opening your mind beyond prejudices and presumptions. A traveller is more open to newer ideas and drops his guard against novel feelings and sensations. The famous American author called travel as “fatal to prejudice”.

3.Travelling makes you think differently even about home

When you travel, you are forced to think about the things you took for granted at home. Things which appeared natural and normal suddenly gain a new light. Like ever wondered why respect for elders does not involve touching feet in other countries?

4.Travel boosts creativity more when you immerse in a new culture.

Just jet-setting from place to place will not boost your creativity. You have to become a part of the new culture, interact with the people for the creativity. Only these new experiences force creativity in thinking.

5.Travel builds identity.

Travel helps you to introspect on who you are and where your aptitude lies. Only a person confident of his uniqueness and identity can truly break the shackles of confirmation and be creative.

So break out of the routine and be your own muse. Travel for new ideas.
