Stranger Things has premiered on Netflix finally, and its makers have revealed details about the soundtrack that will accompany it. July 26 has been marked as the date on which it will be released digitally, on CD and even on cassettes, in keeping with the 1980s theme of the hit TV show. This album contains 16 songs in total, and will be published by Legacy Recordings.
It’s a non-original soundtrack, which is filled with 1980s nostalgia. Tracks like The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley,’ Patsy Cline’s ‘She’s Got You’ and Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ populate it. “Weird Al” Yankovic’s ‘My Bologna’ also makes it into the record, apart from John Mellencamp’s ‘R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.,’ and REO Speedwagon’s ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling.’ The album ends with a lone original track named ‘Never Ending Story,’ which is performed by Stranger Things cast members Gaten Matarazzo and Gabriella Pizzolo.
The producers of the Netflix show had released its first soundtrack in 2017, which had been blessed with a Grammy nomination as well. This one, however, was a compilation of the theme music used in the show. Seventy five tracks had found their way into the album.
Stranger Things was released as a Netflix Original back in 2016. Its amalgam of science fiction and horror had earned it immense praises from viewers and critics alike. Created by The Duffer Brothers, this show follows the lives of a group of kids, one among whom disappears all of sudden, after strange things start happening in their neighbourhood. Winona Ryder and David Harbour were the only two known cast members, while the other scene stealers were the kids, who are shown to have a knack for solving mysteries using 1980s pop culture trivia.
Netflix recently released the third season of this hit show, all eight episodes of which can be streamed right now. Like we said, the soundtrack for season 3 will be arriving on July 26.
