Fatehabad, Haryana-based Rajat Nagpal has garnered quite some attention in a very short amount of time. Known to be the composer behind two absolute chartbusters, Ban Ja Rani and Suit Suit, he stands among the breed of Punjabi artists that are creating endearing melodies which are appealing to people from all over the country.
His career started in 2016, and he has already hit mainstream success. Today, we’ll be looking at his work since 2018 started. Rajat has been a frequent collaborator with Guru Randhawa, and this year was no different. In January, the two came together once again for the song Nachle Na from the film Dil Juunglee.
Credits for the composition have been given to both the artists here, but the trademark Rajat Nagpal sound is hard to miss. Nachle Na is a generic party song that doesn’t impress much though. There is excessive reliance on auto-tune which does not quite gel with the flavour of the song.
The song was part of the soundtrack of Dil Juunglee which starred Taapsee Pannu and Saqib Saleem in lead roles. Along with Guru Randhawa, Neeti Mohan can also be heard crooning in this one. Her voice too has been layered with excessive auto-tune, a move that hasn’t quite gone in the song’s favour.
A better composition than Nachle Na was definitely Kaun Nachdi from the Luv Ranjan film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, which unexpectedly earned quite a lot at the box office earlier this year. Kaun Nachdi is also a generic party track, but it impresses with its electronic set pieces that echo a heavy inspiration from Nucleya’s sound.
The singers are again Guru Randhawa and Neeti Mohan, but this time, the latter’s voice has been spared the extreme levels of auto-tune thankfully. That being said, the singing performances in this song are really worth appreciating. The singers have managed to keep the energy levels high throughout the entire duration of the track.
The most recent Rajat Nagpal release was of course Koi vi Nahi in which he was not collaborating with Guru Randhawa for a change. Instead, Shirley Setia and Gurnazar Chattha were the singers who sang this romantic duet. The song has a blissful melancholic feel to it that’s given not only by the music but also the skilfully written lyrics.
Rajat Nagpal’s career is at an all-time high at the moment, so it remains to be seen how it shapes up in the rest of the year.
