Every once in a while, the Punjabi music scene doles out some absolute gems, which shine brightly amidst the tremendously mediocre music that’s somehow loved by millions. Kaun Hoyega is one such track that caught us off-guard and had us reeling under its influence long after we stopped listening to it.

It’s the poignant lyrics that do the trick really, but no discredit to the brilliant music that creates an atmosphere for the words to exist. Kaun Hoyega, composed by B Praak, has been sung by B Praak himself along with Divya Bhatt. Both have sung it with sincerity that reflects in every word they utter.

Kaun Hoyega is a duet, which talks about the travails of separation. It begins with the lines, “Je main nahi tere kol, te phir kaun hoyega. Rooh meri tadpegi jaani, dil vi royega.” Lyricist Jaani adds more intensity to the following lines – “Mera vi jee nahi lagna. Do din vich mar jaaun sajna. Main pagal ho jana. Main vi te kho jana.”

Speaking about the singing performance by B Praak, it’s something that really ups the ante for the track. His perfect handling of the high notes is perfect for such a track. And while the voice of Divya Bhatt also impresses, it does give you the feeling that she is holding back a little with her vocals.

This song has been made by B Praak for the upcoming Punjabi film, Qismat, which stars Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta in lead roles. The music video hence seems to be a showing a crucial moment from the film. It begins with the separation of the two leads on a railway station and goes on to illustrate their love story.

Qismat also happens to be the name of an extremely popular song by Ammy Virk, which too features Sargun Mehta and is composed partly by B Praak. Qismat the film is being directed by Jagdeep Sidhu who is making his direction debut after having written flicks like Harjeeta and Nikka Zaildar. Ammy Virk has featured in both those films, and this one marks the third collaboration between the two. Qismat is slated to be released on September 21.

If you’re tired of the repetitive Punjabi music that’s doled out every other day, we’d advise you to do give Kaun Hoyega a listen.
