Cricket and Bollywood films is always a winning formula in India, no wonder then that so many films have been made on cricket. Another one to join the bandwagon is the Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan starrer The Zoya Factor.
The Zoya factor is being directed by Abhishek Sharma and is based on a book of the same name by author Anuja Chauhan. The film is a rom-com with cricket as the backdrop. It is being said that while Sonam was always the first choice for Zoya’s character, the director decided on casting Dulquer after he saw him in the trailer of Mani Ratnam’s OK Kanmani. Abhishek was impressed with his work and immediately cast him for The Zoya Factor.
While many of the Bollywood actresses who have either been dating cricketers or married to them have often been blamed when the Indian cricket team loses a match. The trollers too go into a frenzy, blaming the poor actresses as being a distraction or unlucky for the match, The Zoya Factor interestingly is about how a girl proves to be a lucky charm for the cricket team during their matches.

For those who have not read the book, here’s a little spoiler! The Zoya Factor is an amazing book about a girl named Zoya who was born at the exact time that India won the World Cup back in 1983. She works as an executive in an advertising agency and when on one occasion she has breakfast with the Indian team, the team wins the match, this is followed by many other victories during her presence at the match and also a loss when she’s not present during the matches. This leads them to believe that she is indeed their lucky charm and Zoya suddenly gets all the attention and she is also declared a Goddess. Meanwhile, she also falls in love with Nikhil who is a cricketer and does not believe in superstitions like the others.
For what happens after, we need to wait for the movie which is yet to go on floors but said to release by 5 April 2019.
