Nanu Ki Jaanu Movie Review; It’s All About A Ghost Who’s More Like A Homemaker!

Want To See A Cappuccino Drinking Bhoot?

Nanu Ki Jaanu Movie Review

Nanu Ki Jaanu the horror comedy, revolves around a Delhi based lad, Anand aka Nanu (Abhay Deol) who is a land mafia agent. His life is turned into a horror story (literally) with the arrival of a ghost in his apartment.

This is no ordinary ghost, this is a ghost of a beautiful girl, whom Nanu happens to meet under sorrowful circumstances. This ghost loves to live in the chimney (The whole time my mind kept wondering what Santa Claus would have to say about that!). The ghost can understand both Hindi and English, loves cappuccino, hates people who drink beer and smoke cigarettes and you don’t even need a bottle opener at home if you have a ghost like her! If you were thinking that’s all…well, that’s not all, this ghost even tidies up the house and keeps it spic and span! Basically, a ghost who many men would love to have as a ‘gharwaali!’

This ghost is head over heels in love!

The film is like any other slapstick comedy, though the first half does manage to make the audience laugh and entertains to a certain level. It’s the never-ending second half that the director seems to have lost track of. It makes you think out loud; “What the heck was that?” The twist just before the end was interesting and unexpected though.

Abhay Deol plays a land mafia agent, who is more of a softie inside a macho frame

Abhay Deol, as usual, was exceptional even though the script and dialogues of the film are weak. To perform well in a film that has an average script, screenplay and dialogues is an art and Abhay has mastered the art in this film. But even then, all the while I kept wondering why Abhay Deol said yes to this film; I mean.. kyon Abhay kyon?? Patralekha had very little to do in the film and didn’t quite look convincing as a ghost. The ending scenes have absolutely no logic whatsoever. Imagine a ghost preaching about road safety and the importance of wearing a helmet! ‘Nuff said!

I’d say why waste your time and money? A better idea would be to spend some time with your dadi or nani and ask them to narrate some interesting ghost stories instead….or better still just go chug some chilled beer!!
