If you’ve enjoyed the grand historical drama Padmavat recently, then it will be interesting to watch this one to see how historical dramas were made back in the days. Mughal-E-Azam a timeless classic, drected by K. Asif, is about the love affair between Mughal Prince Salim and the mahal’s court dancer Anarkali. The black and white film was the first film to ever film to be rendered into color. It was re-released in 2004.
Though only three songs from this movie were colourised, the film was restored for the coming generations to watch. So all Ranbir Kapoor fans, can watch his grandfather Raj Kapoor as a young man in Chori Chori along with Sanjay Dutt’s mother Nargis, and Pran. The film was a remake of a Hollywood flick titled Happened One Night.
Dev Anand can probably charm any generation! Hum Dono has Dev Anand in a double role along with the most liked actresses of that era, Nanda and Sadhana. The film is set during the World War II.
Dil Tera Deewana
The title song from this film was one of the biggest hits during that time. Dil Tera Deewana starred the late Shammi Kapoor and Mala Sinha. Mohan played by Shammi Kapoor is sent to a former army captain’s house in order to discipline him by his father but Mohan asks his friend to switch places with him!
Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam
This was a film that was ahead of its time, it deals with the subject of adultery and extramarital affairs. The film starred Guru Dutt, Meena Kumari and Waheeda Rahman.
A struggling poet Vijay (Guru Dutt) tries to get his work published but faces constant rejection. However, he gets unexpected assistance from a prostitute named Gulabo (Waheeda Rehman), a prostitute who falls in love with him and his work. The film is a cult classic and worth a watch.
Boot Polish produced by Raj Kapoor is a beautiful film about two siblings who are left in the care of their aunt after their mother’s death. The aunt is evil and forces them to beg on the street to feed themselves. The film won a Filmfare Award for the best film.
