Do You Know The BRAT Diet That Can Keep You Healthy This Summer?

Summers are all about traveling and finding out ways to beat the effects of the harsh rays of the sun.

But summer is also the time when you could be suffering from health issues such as stomach problems, digestive issues, diarrhoea, stomach pain and food poisoning.

A BRAT Diet Can Help

A BRAT diet, which is an acronym that actually reads Banana, Rice, Applesauce and Toast, is one of the best remedies that can help you take care of your stomach and put your digestive system at ease.

Banana helps to soothe your digestive tract after you have suffered a bout of diarrhoea. Eating it on a regular basis will also help to prevent the occurrence of diarrhoea. Banana contains a very high amount of potassium which will help to replace the electrolytes that your body loses because of diarrhoea.

2. R For The Rice

Rice is rich in its content of dietary fibre, which is known as soluble fibre. This helps to thicken your stool and in the process, prevent and stop diarrhoea. Also, because it is gentle on your digestive system, eating rice will avoid any irritation to your digestive tract and will help to avoid pains related to stomach and digestive problems. The good thing is, both white and brown rice are good for this.

3. A For The Apple Or The Applesauce

Apples contain something known as pectin, which helps to reduce the symptoms of diarrhoea. It also helps to firm up your stool and avoid the loss of fluids from your body. One thing you need to remember is that the skin of the apple can irritate your digestive tract. So it is best to boil the apple, remove the skin and then have it.

4. T For A Crunchy Toast

One of the best foods that you can munch on when you have diarrhoea is plain white toast. If you love white bread but don’t eat it to prevent carbs, this is the time when you can munch on it and get some much-needed comfort. These are super easy to digest and will bind the stool, which will help stop the loosies.

As diarrhoea makes you lose a lot of fluid from the body, keep sipping on water and other liquids through the day, such as tender coconut water, salt and sugar water and so on.
