But is Botox only what we have heard of so far? Is that what the general conception is all about? Here is a list of all that you need to know about the myths and facts about Botox treatment.

Myth: Botox Treatment Is Not Safe

Fact: Botox is an acronym for a neurotoxin called Botulinum Toxin Type A. Even before it found its way in cosmetic treatment, botox has been extensively used medically to treat certain muscle conditions. Though the word toxin attached to it may scare people from using it, but the amount used is so minuscule, that it is considered a safe treatment both medically and in cosmetic treatments as well. The way Botox works is very scientific. A tiny amount of it when injected attaches itself to nerve endings in the muscles and blocks the impulse from the nerves that is in contact with that muscle.

Myth: Botox Injections Are Painful

Fact: The pain of a Botox injection is similar to any other normal injection. It is like a slight prick of a needle, not more than that. After a Botox shot you do not require any painkillers and you can immediately go back to your normal daily routine. A botox needle is a very fine needle and the amount of injectable is also very little. A numbing gel can also be applied before the treatment. An ice pack further helps to soothe the pin prick pain that one feels.

Myth: Botox Treatment Makes The Face Look Plastic

Fact: This is not the case at all. Botox treatment enhances your look rather than changing it. The treatment doesn’t interfere with the facial expressions. It relaxes the muscles where Botox is injected. It doesn’t affect the sensory nerves, so there is no question of any abnormal feeling in the injected area. Only when the treatment is used in excess then the treated area can look swollen or tight. A Botox treatment done properly by an experienced professional, makes the skin wrinkle free, softer and youthful, giving a face-lift.

Myth: Botox Is A One-Time Treatment

Fact: A botox treatment lasts for about three months. A re-treatment of the same area can be done if there are no side effects or reactions and the dermatologist feels that the same part will respond to another botox treatment.

Myth: Wrinkles Worsen After The Effect Of Botox Is Over

Fact: Botox treatment is not a permanent treatment. The effect of Botox lasts for about 4-6 months, after which it breaks down and dissolves in the body. The skin doesn’t become more wrinkled than before if the treatment is stopped. It is better to discuss with your dermatologist what treatment course should be followed to prevent further aging or wrinkles.

Myth: Skin Creams Work The Same As Botox

Fact: Skin creams do not work beneath the skin to relax the muscles. Only a Botox treatment is capable of that for a wrinkle free and smooth skin.

Myth: Botox Is Same As Plastic Surgery

Fact: As the name speaks out for itself, plastic surgery is a surgery, where you undergo anesthesia, cuts and stitches. While in Botox, it is just a fine needle that is injected for a few minutes. The result of plastic surgery is permanent while that of Botox is temporary.

Myth: An Expensive Treatment Only For The Rich And Famous

Fact: This is the general idea about Botox treatment. But in fact it is much cheaper than what many people think. One session of Botox can range from Rs 6000 to Rs 20,000 depending on which part of the face it is done. Since the effect lasts for about 4-6 months, per month cost is not much high, but almost similar to the cost of a good facial.

Myth: Botox Treatment Is Only When One Develops Wrinkles

Fact: Botox treatment can be taken before any fine lines on the face becomes permanent. So it is not restricted to the later years of life. Everyone doesn’t age at the same rate. A 25 year old can have very prominent crow’s feet than someone who is already 40 years. So depending on the requirement of your face, you can consult your dermatologist and act accordingly.
