The terms “noodles” and “pasta” can be used interchangeably for pasta is a type of noodle. However, the converse is not true; noodle is not a type of pasta. Noodles are made from unleavened dough, usually made from flour, eggs, and water that is rolled flat first and then cut into shapes. Pasta, on the contrary, is made from durum wheat. The other name for durum wheat is semolina, which has higher protein content than other flours, and it is this that renders pasta a chewier taste and texture. While both pasta and noodles can be cooked into extremely delicious dishes, the health conscious ones are left wondering which one is a healthier take.

Pasta comes with some good amounts of iron and has 4% of what is recommended daily, and that is eight times more than what you get from noodles. As pasta contains more calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc, it helps in maintaining a healthier immune system and keeps us fitter as compared to noodles.

While both plain cooked pasta, as well as noodles, have the same amount of protein, enriched regular pasta has more vitamins than noodles as it contains thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid. Regular pasta comes with 83 micrograms of folate while noodles have 3 micrograms. Folate is extremely essential for expecting mothers as it is beneficial to the health of the developing fetus. On the other hand, pasta would be slightly higher than noodles as far as cholesterol is concerned.

So, if you’re confused about what to go for while on a diet, pasta seems to be having an upper-hand over noodles. However, what sauce and veggies you use, determines a lot about what is healthier!
