I hope most of us know that it’s the International Plastic Bag Free Day today and even if you did not know that, you would certainly know that India is one of the most active and religious users of anything that is made up of plastics. If you are in India or an Indian, plastics would be something you definitely cannot imagine your day without. Yes, that’s something that has become as habitual as our beds and clothes!

But, have you imagined how India would be like if plastics were never even invented? Or, let’s put it this way: how would India transform if plastics vanish suddenly? Well, let’s discuss this a little more.

With little or no plastic, we would have to use products made of other materials. Do you realize that with the banning of plastics, paper and wooden toys would come back to life? How amazing would that be! The kids who do not even know that toys could be made from other materials would play with paper planes and wooden shapes: we are so in for it! We have all heard our grandparents say, in their times they had this cloth doll, or that wooden toy, well kids would now have some really exciting things from the past come alive, and in that way we would do so much good to ourselves, our environment and those fellow ocean creatures!

No, we might not see Akbar sitting on the throne again but India would definitely go back in time if one day, plastic decides to step back. The older materials like metal would have a comeback like ‘Backstreet Boys’ and we are not complaining. If plastics happen to go for a holiday, we’d even have straws made of wood, and that is a bonus. What is more happening is that, those clay pots would have a ‘swag se swagat’ at the roadside tea stalls. All the chai lovers; gather around. We need to discuss business!
With the hashtag #saynotoplastics doing rounds on the internet, it is time we actually say no to plastics. We know goodbyes are hard, but let us welcome all the materials which do not create unnecessary pollution in the environment. Look the positive side, it is so exciting to have wooden, clay or metal materials back in action. Iron Man would be proud!
