Everyone keeps telling you to make definite targets, to set actual goals in life and then try to achieve it. But nobody tells you how to do that! It’s like everybody assumes setting goals is a universally known concept and nobody should have to learn that. It’s not at all true though. If you really want to achieve certain goals, it is important to abide the rules of setting a genuine goal in life. These are no super steps to success but just a few mindfully thought of techniques to enhance your practice of goal-setting.

To begin with, it is really important that you listen to your heart. Although, setting goals is more of a logical practice, your goals should really come from your deepest inspirations. You will never achieve a goal if it doesn’t emotionally move you. And thus, it is important to listen to your heart when you start the process of setting your goals. It is really crucial that you deeply believe in the goal you have set.

But then again, your goals must also be realistic. Your heart and your emotions can take you for a ride but do not forget to have a genuine conversation with your mind. Dream big but do not set unworkable targets. If the set goal is too huge, it might overwhelm you and mentally defeat you even before you try to achieve it. Embrace your abilities and follow the course of gradual growth. As you grow, you can set higher goals. But begin with a goal that compliments your current situation.

A goal isn’t a goal as long as you give it a quantity. “I will be slim and strong in 3 months” is not a goal. It is just a vague statement. “I will lose 5 Kg of fats in next one month” is a definite goal. In short, it is important to ask your goal two questions- When? And How much? Let there be definite time and quantity for your goal. When you do that, you can test your performance at the end of the goal period and there would be no room for excuses.

Make Follow Up Calls To Yourself!

If you are running a service business, you will always find yourself making follow up calls to your clients. If you are in a trade business and tomorrow is the delivery date for your consignment, your buyer might call you today to know the progress. It is a normal routine! You do that, everyone does that. Now, you have to do the same for yourself in your personal life. Call yourself, have a very serious conversation and take progress reports. When you start tracking your progress, it will lead you to effective self-introspection and help you become better at achieving your targets.

When you combine all these 3 rules or techniques of goal-setting, you will find one process that is always going on in the background- the process of redefining your goals. The balance of your heart and mind will dictate gradual growth and hence higher goals. The timing and quantity of your goal will keep getting more and more competitive because of your habit of tracking your progress! It is a full circle and an everlasting process. But rest assured, it will help you succeed!
