Terribly inaccurate myths and rumours are often propagated about sexualities other than heterosexuals. You will often find people say things like homosexuality is a disease or bisexuality is just greediness or asexuality is just pretence and what not. None of these statements are backed by any sort of scientific or logical explanation. They are all rooted in blatant stereotypes and are extremely harmful for the Pride community. Let us have a look at the list of such stereotypes in order to help break them eventually.
Bisexuals Are Greedy And All They Want Is A Threesome

“I am attracted to both men and women. But it is not always the same. I mean sometimes it is purely romantic and sometimes it is purely sexual. Even the degree of it varies from person to person. So, it is harsh to say that I am just being greedy or all I want is a threesome. I am all about a monogamous relationship like anyone else. Just because I like both men and women, it doesn’t mean I lack the power and passion of commitment. In fact, I am fiercely loyal in my relationships.” – A closet bisexual friend who chose to anonymous.
Bisexual people may not be exclusive in their attraction to a gender, but that doesn’t mean they want all their options at the same time. It isn’t greed; it is just a natural process of attraction. People cheat in heterosexual relationships as well. Does that mean heterosexuality promotes cheating? Cheating is a personal decision and it only exhibits that person’s character, not their sexuality. Such stereotypes are created only with a purpose of demeaning and criticising alternative sexual lifestyles in our society.
“Pick A Side”
This is another absolutely ridiculous comment that bisexuals get to hear every now and then. People need to urgently understand that sexuality isn’t binary. It is not a choice you make between two competing teams. It is as natural as your skin colour. You didn’t choose your skin colour. You did not choose your sexuality. So, it is not about picking a side. It is about what you are born as. We, as people, need to start seeing all the sides with equal acceptance and let everyone exercise their sexuality the way they want to.
They Are Doing It For Attention

If by attention you mean Biphobia, sure. Because that’s the only kind of attention bisexuals receive. And it is not at all pleasant, we all know that. Why would anyone expose themselves to so much negativity? There are so many other ways of getting attention than identifying as a Bisexual. In fact, Bisexuals crave ZERO ATTENTION. All they want is to go about their normal lives, fall in love with whoever they want, have sex with whoever they want, and come back home to sleep peacefully without having to explain their actions to anyone else. Does that sound like someone who is doing it for attention? Definitely not!
It is time we become more considerate and thoughtful. It is easy to believe in such stereotypes and become a part of the larger problem. But it is impressive to believe only in what’s true and become a part of small solutions.
