We’ve mentioned earlier too that Emraan Hashmi has moved on from just kissing to doing more in films and aren’t we glad? He recently did Why Cheat India, that was based on a relevant issue of the education system in our country. Besides kissing, there is another thing that Emraan loves ( Now, now no it’s not what you’re thinking!). Emraan loves the horror genre of films.
Did you know that Emraan started watching horror films when he was only seven years old! He has earlier acted in horror films like the Raaz series; Raaz 3 D, Raaz Reboot, Raaz The Mystery Continues and also films like Ek Thi Daayan. Emraan is back after three years to work in the genre that he likes. Emraan will be seen in a Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Ezra starring Prithviraj.
Ezra is a supernatural thriller and the story is about paranormal activities that are experienced by the lead characters, Ranjan and Priya, after they open the Dybbuk box. The story then goes back in time to 1941 in Kochi where they discover the love story between a Jewish boy Abraham Ezra and a low caste Christian girl Rosy. Ezra was a huge success in Malayalam.
Emraan says the Hindi version of the film will push all boundaries. Produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak’s the yet to be titled film will be directed by Jay Krishnan, who has directed the original Malayalam film as well. The film will be shot in Mumbai and Mauritius.
The female lead of the film is yet to be cast. Horror as a genre is slowly picking up in India and there are films like Stree and Pari that have done a greta job at the box office and received well by the audience too. Earlier when Emraan was asked why the genre is not popular in India, he had said that is because not many filmmakers make horror films as horror is not seen as a part of popular culture. He also feels that not many films are nominated in the horror category. “At the most, they are nominated for the special effects in the film,” added Emraan.

Speaking about his soon to go on floor horror film, Emraan said, “Horror is a genre with immense potential. A well-made horror film will always draw audiences in huge numbers to cinema halls. With Ezra, we hope to push the boundaries further and give the audience an experience that they will never forget. I am happy to be associating with Kumarji and Abhishek on this film and with Jay Krishnan at the helm of things all I can say is be prepared for one hell of a spooky ride.”
